UK, May 6, 2009 - Fox today announced another X-Men Origins spin-off, this time based on one of the "Easter egg" endings that appear at the end of the Wolverine movie. Depending on which cut of the movie you saw in cinemas, there was both Wolverine and Deadpool postscripts, spoiler-filled descriptions of which can be found here. And having donned our best investigative journalist hats, IGN was exclusively told this by a source close to Fox about the oft-rumoured feature: "We are developing a spin-off with Deadpool. It is one of the two different 'Easter egg' scenes after the credits of Wolverine and hints at two different movies that are coming from them.

One is the Japan backstory which was announced earlier, the other is about Deadpool. The film, which would be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, has Ryan Reynolds attached and would be a complete exploration of this unique character -- his origins, his emergence as the 'Merc with the Mouth,' etc." The source went on to add that Fox is currently looking for writers for both projects.

Elsewhere, The Hollywood Reporter claims that the movie will go "back to the roots of the character known for his slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall." So...

I've been watching Supernatural religiously since I bought the season 1-3 boxset. It's frickin incredible.

The stories are well told, with a mix between standalone stories and a mythology arc that runs throughout each season. In that respect, the show is very similar to the X-Files.
This isn't suprising, considering that a handful of the old X-Files crew work on the show.

I'm still not sure about the name for the show, I still think its a bit naff. But I guess, if the show is good the name doesn't matter.
I've just started on Season 4, and the show really looks like it knows where its going, rather than seeming like the writers are making up the story as they go along, which is the case in some shows.

I urge anyone who hasn't watched this show to start! I have pretty much stopped watching most other shows at the moment so I can finish this!

TERMINATOR SERIES FINALE?
Possible series finale for Fox's cyborg show does little to improve chances at renewal with flat numbers; Dollhouse matches season low.

Terminated?
Fan favorite Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles had its last shot to prove to Fox that it was worth renewing and the fans came out in droves! Well, not really. The season finale performed on par with the rest of the series, which doesn't bode well for a series pickup.
Friday's ender pulled in a 1.3 rating and 5 share in the adult demo, says TV by the Numbers, which is pretty much consistent with the show's recent performance. It was third in its time period, losing to a repeat of Wife Swap… eek!
Terminator's Friday night partner Dollhouse continues to struggle, matching a season low in the adult demo (1.4).
The two shows perform well when DVR playback numbers are figured in, but unless Fox finds a way to make money off of DVR playback, it looks grim for both.

Wolverine Leak

Somehow an early workprint copy of the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie has found its way onto the net. I don't think the movies supposed to come out until May! so this is a huge leak, and as much as Fox try to plug up the problem the interenet is too vast for them to have any real chance.

This kind of makes me feel sorry for Fox, as they were hoping to make a huge profit on the flick where alot of their other big releases have failed. The copy is missing special effects, as well as the scenes that were re-filmed (believed to feature more of Deadpool) but the overall impression from the people that have seen it is bad, and I truly can't see the parts missing really changing that.

I'll be reviewing the theatrical release in a few weeks

Andy Hallett passes away

Earlier in the week I read some deeply upsetting news. Andy Hallett best known for playing Lorne on Angel, lost a 5 year battle with heart disease and died at the age of just 32.

Being a huge fan of Angel this news hit me hard. I can honestly say Lorne was one of my favourite actors and I was always impressed with how much charisma Andy brought to the role.

It is such a shame he had to pass so young, I would have loved to see him appear in other things. RIP Andy.

BATTLESTAR NEWS: CAPRICA SPIN OFF INFO

Battlestar Galactica may have ended its run, but its prequel is just getting started--new clips find way onto 'Net.
It's okay, relax, we're going to make it through this together. Battlestar Galactica ended its excellent four-year run last Friday, but life will go on sayeth the gods. While we wait for the Battlestar mini-movies to be released, let's not forget about Caprica-- the Battlestar prequel series.
The series isn't set to debut on television until 2010, but the two-hour pilot/telemovie is coming out on DVD next month. To promote the disc, seven clips of the pilot have been released online.
Caprica is a drama about the origins of the Cylons and the bitter battle between two familes--the Adamas and the Graystones--as they take opposite sides on the artificial-human debate.

I've been a little busy to write on here, even though I haven't really done anything apart from go to the sea life center (which was nice).

I did get a chance to watch the Battlestar series finale, which I thought was awesome!!. I won't go into it too much as I know it hasn't been on TV in the uk yet, but it pretty much ties up most loose ends, and I guess the rest will be sorted out in TV movies and the spin off show.
I was pleased the show ended strongly, as I felt it had lost a little steam compared to season 3 which was pretty much a perfect season.
Fans won't be dissapointed, but the ending was probably predicted by alot of people.

I also finally began to watch Supernatural, something i've been meaning to do in a long time.
Initially I was turned off by the name. I don't think 'Supernatural' really sounds like it would be anything new or special.
Then I had a look at the show again and it didnt help that the lead cast looked like extras from the OC, and I didn't really fancy another teen drama/comedy show covering as sci fi (I.E Ghost Whisperer)
But finally after 4 full seasons I got around to it. It is definately worth watching!

STAR WARS LIVE ACTION TV SHOW NEWS!
You never know where you'll find out some interesting news, as MTV reminds us via a story that broke at the junket for the new Nicolas Cage film Knowing. At that event, one of Knowing's stars, Rose Byrne (Damages) has revealed that the Star Wars live-action series has begun casting. Byrne tells MTV, "A lot of my friends have been auditioning for it." Back in fall 2007, word came that George Lucas was meeting with potential writers for the series – set in-between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope -- but there has been little news since. Presumably George Lucas' attentions have been more focused on last year's launch of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. However, with that show now up and running, it looks like Lucas might now be ready to really get going on the live-action show. Originally slated to debut this year, the series is not expected to premiere now until at least 2010. Lucas has been vague on what characters will be in the series, except to say it won't include the Skywalker clan or any of the other main characters from the films – though Lucas' producing partner Rick McCallum has confirmed Boba Fett will be a part of the show. As with The Clone Wars, Lucas is intending to produce a full season of the show before finding a network to air it – which would be a highly risky proposition for an independent producer to do, were the project not called Star Wars. Byrne actually had a role in Attack of the Clones as Padme's handmaiden Dorme. Despite only working on that project for a week and revealing she's never seen the Star Wars films, Byrne still humorously told MTV "95% of the fan mail I get is from Star Wars," saying her experience on the film was wonderful and that "George is a great guy." Byrne noted she herself would not be auditioning for the new Star Wars series, reminding MTV, "I'm on a show." (And since way more people will read this than our Damages articles, I'll gratuitously use this opportunity to point out that Damages is a terrific show. Check it out!)

Rourke Joins Iron Man 2

US, March 11, 2009 - After weeks of public back-and-forth, Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke will reportedly be in Iron Man 2 after all. Deadline Hollywood Daily says that Rourke got a significant salary bump after Marvel's previously reported "lowball offer." According to DHD, Rourke will play "the Russian villain" in the film, which seems to confirm the rumor that he'll play Crimson Dynamo. The site says that Rourke will start researching his role once he wraps up promoting his comeback film The Wrestler in, ironically enough, Russia. And just to add fuel to the fanboy fire, DHD also claims, "Sony was considering hiring Mickey to play the villain in Spider-Man 4." Which character do you think Rourke would have played in Spidey 4? UPDATED: Variety confirms Rourke's casting in Iron Man 2, adding that he'll "play Whiplash, a character that includes elements from that comicbook villain and Crimson Dynamo, another Russian baddie."

According to Latino Review, Branagh recently had lunch with Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård, the 32 year-old, 6'4" son of Pirates of the Caribbean and Mamma Mia! star Stellan Skarsgård. The site confirmed that the two did indeed meet at the restaurant mentioned in the article, and that they share the same agency. Alexander Skarsgård is best known to stateside audiences for his work on the HBO series Generation Kill and True Blood, where he plays Viking vampire Eric Northman. A casting notice that appeared online recently said the filmmakers are looking for a male in his mid-to-late 20s, 6' or taller. The notice described the character of Thor as: "Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severely humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature hero of our film." If Alexander Skarsgård is cast as Thor, one wonders if his dad Stellan will follow suit and play Thor's father Odin. UPDATED: IESB claims that 30 Days of Night star Josh Hartnett has met with Branagh and "is currently on a very short list" to play Loki, the villainous god of mischief and Thor's half-brother. "Word is Josh and his camp are really interested because he has never played a villain before and after Heath Ledger's Oscar win for the latest comic book villain, Hartnett is intrigued by the character." In addition to Alexander Skarsgård, IESB reports that G.I. Joe star Channing Tatum is also in the running to play Thor, but that Branagh wants Skarsgård for the part.

LOST OWNS SATURN AWARDS

ABC's time-traveling show dominates television category at Saturn Awards; Heroes, Battlestar also tops.

Contrary to popular belief, awards season is NOT over. Sure, the bald-headed gold statuettes have been handed out, those globes were distributed a ways back, and the Puppy Bowl already named its M.V.P., but it's time for the geeks to dish out some hardware via the annual Saturn Awards.
Recognizing the best in science-fiction, horror, and fantasy, the Saturn Awards announced its list of nominees today, and there's a fairly good chance that ABC's Lost will take home a trophy this year. Lost was honored with 11 nominations this year, almost doubling the second-highest total in the television category.
Best network television series nominations went to Lost, Heroes, Fringe, Life on Mars, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Supernatural. On the cable side of things, Battlestar Galactica, The Closer, Dexter, Leverage, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and True Blood will battle it out.
Lost also dominated the acting categories with Matthew Fox (Jack), Evangeline Lilly (Kate), Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond, brotha), Michael Emerson (Ben), Josh Holloway (Sawyer), Yunjin Kim (Sun), Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet), Alan Dale (Widmore), Kevin Durand (Keamy), and Sonya Walger (Penny) all getting nominations in actor, supporting actor, and guest actor categories. No love for Terry O'Quinn?
Heroes also fared well with a total of six nominations, followed by Battlestar Galactica and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles with four each.
On the film side of things, The Dark Knight grabbed 11 nominations, with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Iron Man right behind with nine and eight, respectively.

I'm a little more on the ball than this usually but I've been a little busy this week. I saw Watchmen twice! and I wasn't really dissapointed, but I can understand why it received mixed reviews. It looked amazing!!!, but it in terms of story it was far too complex to fit 'easily' into one movie, which resulted in some of the aspects of the story not being given enough screentime.

Although saying that, I dont think it could have been done any better considering its been previously called 'unfilmable'.

I would urge anyone whose thinking of going to see the film to read the novel first, and it is far easier to follow the narrative, which at some moments feel like 3 films cut down and spliced together. But suprisingly I want to watch it again, maybe the Mallrats of Superhero movies?

I've also been busy preparing for the Legend of Dwayne Wambo. I've purchased my own video camera!! but I can't hook it up to my computer!!! So i'm waiting on another part. I'm working on the full script right now, so filming should begin soonish!! right after casting.

WAMBO PLOT SYNOPSIS

The Legend of Dwayne Wambo tells the tragic story of a successful Scottish antiques dealer who lost everything in the crossfire of an elaborate plan to steal the first ever Toby Jug.

Set in the heart of Glasgow, Dwayne Wambo begins as an online antique dealer, leading a comfortable life with his wife Maggie (nicknamed the Duchess) and young daughter Rose.
At a Sunday car boot sale he comes across the rarest (and often thought of as being Mythological) antique in existence. The first ever Toby Jug. Before long, the story of Dwayne's find is all over the British tabloids.
He receives a sizeable offer for the jug from Scottish mob boss Carlos Mendoza, but declines.

While Dwayne is attending an Antiques conference in Massachusetts his home is broken into by Mendoza in an attempt to obtain the jug. Dwayne returns to find the jug gone, and his wife and daughter dead. He swears revenge on Mendoza for the killings, and will once again obtain the jug.

3 years later Dwayne returns from exile. Trained in all areas of combat, he begins picking off Mendoza's men one by one in a hope to reach his treasured Toby Jug again.

WATCHMEN

A few reviews have started to break through since the premieres, and are pretty much all positive. All agreeing on how gorgeous the visuals are, and how true it is to the book. Check out this video of Blunty for an example of how ridiculously excited some reviewers have gotten.

Hopefully I'm going to be catching the midnight imax showing next Thursday!!! and i'll put my thoughts up asap.

CW RENEWS SUPERNATURAL+SMALLVILLE FOR ANOTHER SEASON
I'm not really a fan of either show, but to be honest I haven't given them a chance. I have heard alot of good things about Supernatural though.

More than a few people can let out a sigh of relief today, as The CW has renewed a half dozen of its staples. The early pick ups are not only a good sign that the shows will live on, but also the network. As the underappreciated stepchild to the major networks, the CW's unimpressive ratings made it a candidate to go belly up.
But that clearly isn't the case, as noted by the six renewals.
Leading the way is the (sort of) surprising pick up of Smallville, which will enter its ninth season. The current season was thought to be its last with the exodus of several key actors and producers, but the tale of young Superman will live on. And that problem of re-signing Tom Welling to return as Clark Kent? We're going to go ahead and guess that those negotiations worked out well for both sides.
Smallville's Thursday night partner Supernatural will also come back, riding ratings growth to a fifth season. While not really in danger of being canceled, stranger things have happened at The CW.

DOLLHOUSE + TERMINATOR VIEWERS DROPS ON SECOND EPISODE
I actually enjoyed the second episode of Dollhouse alot more than the first, it had a quicker pace and also set up and explained alot about where the show looks to be going. I'll try to post a review if I get a chance, otherwise use IGN.

It is still is a long way from being a great show, and I honestly don't think it'll ever be up there with Angel or Buffy. The concept doesn't have enough depth, and much more interesting shows are currently on at the moment. Terminator TSCC for example, Dollhouse's sister show looks to be on the road to being cancelled too, the first sign was Fox placing the show in a slot known for being the last place alot of shows are seen on before being cancelled.
This seems like a strange move. With the upcoming new Terminator movie I would have thought FOX would have pushed the TV show as much as possible. Not to mention, its a great show! and people shouldn't be turned off by it being a spin off from the movies.

It doesn't appear that the Friday night double-bill of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse is working out too well for Fox. After a disappointing debut just over a week ago, both shows struggled once again, causing concern for fans and executives alike.
Dollhouse lost some of last week's already light audience on Friday, falling to 4.2 million viewers and 1.7 rating/7 share among 18-49-year olds. In contrast, the series' February 13 debut pulled in 4.7 million viewers and a 2/6.
Terminator also felt the Friday pinch, though not as bad as Dollhouse. The numbers were almost flat from last week, which tallied the series' lowest to date. In its second showing in the Friday slot, Terminator notched 3.8 million viewers and 1.3/5, just a hair better than last week (3.7 million, 1.3/5).
While Friday isn't exactly a night executives look to for big ratings, the fact that both Dollhouse and Terminator are fairly well-budgeted scripted shows makes the slim returns that much harder to swallow. And the fact that they got beat by CBS repeats and Supernanny probably isn't a good sign either.

DARK CITY (1998)

If you have never seen or even heard of this film I strongly urge you to pick up a copy, as it is one of the most orginal, dark and enjoyable science fiction films I have ever seen. Set completely in darkness, it seemlessly blends Noir and Science Fiction, being faithful to both genres.

Plus it has the bloke form the Crystal Maze in it!!!

Lead character, John Murdoch awakens alone in a strange hotel to find that he has lost his memory and is wanted for a series of brutal and bizarre murders. While trying to piece together his past, he stumbles upon a fiendish underworld controlled by a group of beings known as The Strangers who possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants. Battlestar Galactica movie?

Universal Pictures is planning to turn the TV series Battlestar Galactica into a feature film with series creator Glen A. Larson being lined up to script and produce it. We were informed that the film will be based on the original BSG series from 1978-79 rather than the recent reboot from Sci Fi Channel. The story followed a band of humans who were the only survivors of a devastating attack on their colonial homeworld by the vicious cybernetic race known as the Cylons. The survivors, led by Commander Adama, embark on a journey through space aboard the military vessel Battlestar Galactica to find refuge on a distant planet called Earth. Battlestar Galactica has been in cinemas before. Re-edited versions of television episodes were released theatrically: Battlestar Galactica (1978), Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack (1978), and Conquest of the Earth (1980). A Universal spokesperson refused to comment on rumored projects before ultimately denying it; we were later able to confirm our scoop independently. (This studio denial was reminiscent of Sony's dismissive response to our scoop about Jaden Smith starring in a Karate Kid remake, which we broke a YEAR before the project was officially announced.) Although we understand that nothing is final yet on the BSG film front, fans should likely expect an official announcement on the project in the coming weeks.

I fell asleep after best supporting actor because it was silly late. I woke up for work at about 7 to see that Mickey didn't win best actor, which is a real shame. It makes you think that all the publicity he's been doing may have given the impression that he sold out to the panel, especially his rumoured involvement with the WWE and Wrestlemania may have had an impact on the decision. Or even that all the other results were pretty much predictable, and they wanted to shake things up a bit.

TV SHOW ROUND UP

I though i'd write something as it was quite a big week for TV shows . With the first episode of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse and the returning Terminator:TSC aswell as Battlestar and Lost heating up.

I was eager to watch Dollhouse, being a fan of all of Whedon's other shows I was really excited!, but also a little worried from what I had read about the pilot episode on the internet. I can't be bothered to explain the entire premise, but I can sum it up by saying that it wasn't bad, kind of a mesh between Alias and The Matrix. Eliza Dushku doesn't really carry the role very well so far and comes across unnatural and quite weak compared to someone like Jennifer Garner. The format is dated but i'm going to keep with it for a few episodes. Whedon should keep to witty dialogue and Ghouls.

Both Battlestar and Lost seemed to pick up their game this week. I am feeling confused by both of the shows, but in a good way. Iwant to go back and watch the episodes again rather than just give up not really knowing whats going. Battlestar seems to be particulary picking up in its last run of episodes. My favourite season was 3 and I though 4 was weak apart from the ending so hopefully it'll go out on a high note

I've always really liked the idea of blogging, but never really understood why people would want to read a web page dedicated to the shit that comes out of my mouth. I still don't really know what i'm going to use to for, because to be honest I don't have too much going on in my life right now that other people would like to read about, but I guess its better than doing bugger all at work. I'll probably use it to chat shit about TV shows and Films

Ok, first of all anyone that knows me understands that I like bleeding jokes dry, and may also know that I get very bored and re-imagine popular 80's and 90's songs by taking a midi song and changing the lyrics. Well I have decided to take the giant leap to video and will be doing the same thing. Think 'Be Kind Rewind' but funny (possibly). Currently I don't have a video camera so the project is indefinately in hiatus. Although the first project will be titled 'WAMBO' First Blood part 8 Death an Brunch and will star my good friend David 'Smokey' Seton in the title role of Dwayne Wambo, a tough uncomprimising antique dealer from the mean streets of Glasgow. Think Lovejoy meets Rambo and then meets Taggart.
